Macalester College Partners with Anderson Ladd to
Help
Create State of the Art Athletic Facility
St.
Paul, Minnesota. Macalester College prides itself on its
academic excellence. In an effort to provide a quality college
experience they decided in January of 2007 to begin construction on
a brand new athletic facility to better mirror the college's
academic standing. What resulted was the brand new Leonard Center
Athletic and Wellness Complex. The recently completed facility
includes a new field house, weight room, exercise rooms, squash and
racquetball courts, competition court, and student meeting areas.
After a good recommendation from other schools and a product
offering that fit their needs, Macalester College decided to partner
with Anderson Ladd. The Minneapolis based company provided wood and
synthetic athletic flooring throughout the facility.
The field house was outfitted with Robbins flooring and Porter
Athletic Equipment. The 18,000 square feet NCAA certified running
track was equipped with Robbins Durathon Elite sheet rubber. The
35,000 square feet infield playing courts were outfitted with
Robbins Pulastic Spike Proof poured urethane. Ron Osterman,
Assistant Director of Athletics was very happy with the results,
"the best move we made was to use Robbins surfaces and Porter
equipment." The spike proof infield playing court's surfaces, "play
fair and true for [tennis, baseball, and softball]. To keep the
tennis, track, softball, and baseball coaches all happy with one
facility and surface is great."

While the field house provides a multipurpose facility for the
school's athletic teams, it gets a variety of use during the winter
months from students by providing a safe and durable place to play
indoor ultimate frisbee, indoor soccer, basketball, and other
intramural sports. During these events the school utilizes Porter's
gymnasium divider curtains to allow for multiple games at once.
Included in the facility's construction were two much needed
aerobic areas. Both of these rooms are used for dance team
practices, hip hop and salsa classes, yoga and pilates sessions, and
tae kwon doe lessons. Anderson Ladd installed 3,500 square feet of
Robbins Sportwood Ultra Star hardwood flooring in these rooms,
providing a durable and quality floor for these multipurpose areas.
Anderson Ladd also installed 1,600 square feet of Robbins Bio
Cushion LP in the squash and racquetball courts. Ron Osterman was so
impressed with Anderson Ladd's service and expertise that he has
willingly recommended Anderson Ladd for related projects at other
schools. Throughout the entire process the Anderson Ladd team worked
closely with general contractor McGough Construction and Macalester
College representatives to complete the project on time and within
budget.
