Como Park High School
St Paul Public Schools
St Paul, Minnesota
Architect: Paul Meyer Architects
Como Park High School in St Paul, Minnesota determined they needed a complete gym floor replacement. Anderson Ladd was contracted for the gym floor replacement based on a quality track record, experience and ability to apply enough resources to get the job done on a tight school shut down Summer schedule. Anderson Ladd project management team worked closely with St Paul Schools to coordinate with other trade contractors on the tight schedule. The project was successful in part because Anderson Ladd had the resources to get the floor installed in a shorter period of time than is normal and than was available due to concrete moisture delays. Most companies do not have Anderson Ladd’s resources and would have delayed the gym being complete by the time Fall sports started in early August.
Wood gym floors installed on a fresh concrete slab or a slab that has excess moisture evaporation will eventually fail and have to be replaced or repaired extensively because the wood will absorb all of the moisture evaporating off of the concrete slab. Anderson Ladd has extensive experience with moisture issues and moisture mitigation as they affect gym floor replacements and was able to assist the school district with a plan.
Once the moisture issues were resolved, the result was a beautiful new gym floor. Another highlight of Anderson Ladd’s workmanship was the painting and graphics of all of the game event lines. As the photo above shows, there were more event lines than usual on this gym floor including volleyball, basketball, and many badminton courts.
